How to check if Windows is activated
It takes a few seconds to check, and the same screen shows which edition you have.
Windows 11
Open Settings, then System, then Activation, and read the state at the top of the page.
Windows 10
Open Settings, then Update & Security, then Activation.
With a command
Run slmgr /xpr. “Permanently activated” is the result you want. slmgr /dlv shows the full licence details, including the channel: Retail, OEM or Volume.
How to check Office
Open Word, then File, then Account. It should say the product is activated.

What does a date in slmgr /xpr mean?
An expiry date points to a volume or KMS licence that needs renewal, not a permanent one.
