Windows 11 for gaming: Home or Pro, and what to set up

For games, Home and Pro perform the same.

Home or Pro

Choose Home unless you need work features such as Remote Desktop host or Hyper-V.

Gaming features in both

Game Mode, Auto HDR, DirectStorage on supported drives.

Settings that help

  • Update graphics drivers from the card maker.
  • Turn on Game Mode.
  • Set the display to its highest refresh rate.
  • Close background apps.
  • Use an SSD for games.
  • Keep enough free disk space.

What to avoid

“Boost” tools that switch off security features, and activators from gaming forums.

Does Pro give more FPS?

No. Frame rates are the same in both editions.
