How to find your Windows product key
Where the key is depends on how you got Windows.
Laptops with Windows preinstalled
The key is often stored in the firmware. In PowerShell as administrator run: (Get-CimInstance SoftwareLicensingService).OA3xOriginalProductKey. If it prints a key, Windows reuses it automatically on reinstall.
Bought keys
Look in the order email or the box. Keys bought from us are also saved in your account.
Last five characters
slmgr /dli shows the end of the installed key. This helps you confirm which key is in use, but not recover the whole key.
If there is no key at all
A digital licence linked to your Microsoft account needs no key. See product key or digital licence.
Be careful with key finder tools
Many free tools are bundled with unwanted software, so use the built-in commands first.
Can I read the key from a PC that does not start?
Check the sticker, the order email or your account. The firmware key can be read after booting from a USB drive.
